Windmills, Canals and Clogs

We arrived in Amsterdam after a rather “bumpy” trip from Houston.  Fortunately we were able to get 3 to 4 hours of sleep each so we arrived in AMS reasonably “awake”.

The flight arrived around 11.00am AMS time and, after a quick arrivals procedure we found a place to sit, have a coffee, change some money and work out how to get into town.

We booked a bed and breakfast for our two night stay in AMS so it was just a matter of getting into the city from Schipol airport then onto a bus for the short ride to the B&B.

The train trip to the city was quite quick however, working out how to buy the two day travel pass and get to the correct bus stop was another matter.  It is like most cities – a bit difficult to work it out initially but once we were “in the system” it was fine.

We found the B&B without too many problems and checked/settled in quite quickly.

We had an LLD (little lie down) in order to catch up on some sleep before we headed out for a look around the city.

The tram stop was right outside the door to the B&B so getting into town was very straight forward.  The trip on the tram was very pleasant – past wonderful old apartments set alongside of canals.  Amsterdam is a great place.

The host at the B&B recommended an Indonesian restaurant (the Dutch East Indies – now Indonesia) had an impact on the Dutch!!  The food was OK but I think we are rather spoiled in Hong Kong so we were not overly impressed with the whole experience in general. They did make the best hot chocolate the Princess has tasted though!!!

After a short stroll around the streets we headed back to the B&B and had a wonderful night’s sleep.

Amsterdam Day 2 tomorrow!!
