Goodbye Hong Kong, Hello Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Venice Beach

Today I finished up work around 4.30 and headed home to my Princess.  We had packed for the trip over the weekend so all I needed to do was have a shower and get the final packing done before returning to the airport (I work at the airport) and check in.

We caught the airport bus out to the airport and checked straight in (unusual for staff travel).  The flight was “wide open” so wenser were given our confirmed Business Class seats (the new lie flat configuration) tickets on the Boeing 777.

After checking in we enjoyed a light supper before proceeding to the pre-booked foot massage appointment.  Ah – what a way to start the holiday.  The Princess was most relaxed at the end of her special massage – we both could have fallen asleep in the chairs.

We went through immigration early and had a walk around the shops that were still open then took in a Starbucks before heading to the gate.  The flight departed at 11.30pm so by the time we boarded we were ready for bed!!  Fortunately that was not a problem because we both had lie flat bed seats!!  Happy days!

The Princess managed around 8 hours of sleep and I was very happy with 7.  I also managed to take in 4 episodes of CSI-Las Vegas during the trip.  I good switch off before and after sleeping!!  We also enjoyed the excellent inflight service from the staff at Cathay – Airline of the Year in the latest awards!!

The new “fishbone” seating arrangement is quite strange to look at but it is very comfortable and just the thing for a 12 hour plus flight to across the Pacific.

We arrived at LAX about an hour ahead of the time we expected (9.00pm local time – about midday in Hong Kong).  We cleared customs without any fanfare and proceeded to our pre-booked accommodation at the Radisson at LAX – in the airport precinct.  We decided to keep the first night simple because we were arriving “late” and we thought it would be nice just to stay somewhere close to the airport.

The room we booked into was nice and comfortable. We took in a very late supper, some nice Californian wine and port and retired for the evening around 1.00am – wide awake!!.  With ear plugs inserted any external noise was dulled so we were able to get a reasonable sleep – albeit that the bodies were still on HK time.

Summary – a pleasant start to the holiday with a foot massage, lie flat bed on an airliner, great inflight service and a straightforward arrival in the US
